Washburn District High School Principal and Superintendent Larry Worcester announced May 23rd the honor parts for the class of 2024. They are: Valedictorian, Chelsea Hobbs, Salutatorian, Hilary Driscoll, First Honor Essayist, Nishelle Kelley, and Second Honor Essayist, Roegen Rosi-Carney.
Chelsea Hobbs is the daughter of Craig and Crystal Hobbs. During her high school career, Chelsea has been involved in athletics playing varsity soccer and basketball since 8th grade and holding a captain role for multiple years. She has also played varsity softball freshman and senior year and has been a member of the school’s varsity club and has served as an officer. Chelsea is a member of the National Honor Society and is the current president. Chelsea has been involved as part of the yearbook staff and has served on the student council for three years.
Along with being selected for the prestigious MPA Principal’s Award and the Aroostook Scholar Athlete, she was also recognized for the Phi Bette Kappa award junior year recognizing intellectual curiosity and achievement. Chelsea has completed early college courses throughout high school and has also obtained approximately 350 hours towards the Maine State licensing exam for cosmetology. In addition to CTE hours, Chelsea has accrued over 125 hours volunteering in her community. After graduation Chelsea plans to attend Northern Maine Community College majoring in Business Administration.
Hilary Driscoll is the daughter of Marci and Dale Driscoll. Hilary is a member of the National Honor Society and also serves as the current secretary and treasurer. During her high school career, she has been involved with student council, student government serving as vice president of senior class, and has been a member of the high school yearbook staff.
Hilary has been a recipient of the student of the month award at WDHS and has also completed the Culinary Arts program at Caribou Technology Center. Along with participating in early college coursework, Hilary has been gainfully employed part time at Walmart.
After graduation Hilary plans to attend the University of Maine at Presque Isle majoring in Health Science. Upon completion, she would like to pursue her doctorate in Pharmacy at the University of New England.
Nishelle Kelley is the daughter of Travis and Lacie Kelley. Nishelle has achieved High Honors all throughout her high school career and was the May Student of the Month at WDHS. Nishelle has participated in student government and is the current treasurer for the senior class. She is a member of the National Honor Society. Nishelle was part of the yearbook publication this year and has taken early college coursework through the University of Maine system. Nishelle has participated in both junior varsity and varsity basketball eighth grade though 10th grade year. She is currently employed and works part time at Walmart. Nishelle is considering Northern Maine Community College or Eastern Maine Community College to pursue early childhood education.
Roegen Rosi-Carney is the son of Justin and Alisa Carney. During his high school career, he has been involved in varsity club, soccer, cross country, basketball, track and field and baseball senior year. Roegen was a recipient of the All Aroostook Team honors for soccer as well as cross country and was selected for the senior bowl for soccer. He was the Aroostook County League javelin champion this season.
He has served in student government as president both freshman and sophomore year.
Roegen is enlisted with the Army National Guard and is currently working part time for the town of Washburn. His volunteer efforts have included geese and duck banding, Can-Am sled dog races and various fundraisers. This winter in addition to playing varsity basketball, Roegen participated in Junior IAABO officiating. After graduation Roegen will serve in the Maine Army National Guard with plans to then attend Northern Maine Community College to become an electrician.
